MADRE DOLOROSA owes her inspiration to the powerful slasher / home invasion movie entitled "A L'interieur" (2007, J.Maury - A.Bustillo), in the light of "Jacob's Ladder" (1990, A. Lyne). A pregnant woman suffers a very serious road accident but, unlike her husband, survives and carries on the pregnancy. The night before delivery, a woman dressed in black raids her house armed with huge scissors intent on stealing her son from the belly. The tenacious resistance of the young mother to the attacks of the intruder, who is implacable and determined to pierce that womb to steal the fruit, turns out to be a long hallucination in which the dying mother takes refuge, to guarantee a future for the child who lives inside her.
"A L'interieur" is an hectic and brutal poem of blood that shows the brutality of birth: it depicts the trauma of coming to the world in its most perfect representation. When we are born, we kill our mother: that magical being which is the vessel of two souls will never exist again. We will be raised by the mutilated ghost of that perfect symbiosis. Life itself becomes a trap and a temptation for Death, which despite having many children, is actually sterile. What is the destiny of a child born of a dying woman raised by Death itself is the question to which perhaps we will find an answer in a short and infinite dream.
